Lean, keen machine

JOE WICKS: THE BODY COACH

-

BODY coach, social media sensation, health and fitness guru. Whatever you want to call him, Joe Wicks intends to get everyone Lean In 15, and some two million Instagram followers are on board.

With that mop of shiny hair and washboard stomach, he’s certainly a good walking advert. He’s reshaped the bodies of thousands with his 90 Day Plan, and now he’s back for another TV series, working with people who are battling their health, diet and body confidence.

“Do not mention the word ‘diet’ around me, they don’t work!” he yells. “People don’t need to spend hours in the gym,” he adds. OK, now we’re listening.

Joe believes in short intense workouts, real food, fast recipes and feeling good. He even tells us to “stay off the sad step” – in other words, ditch the bathroom scales.

His cheeky chappy mockney accent (he’s from Surrey), with his exclamations of “wicked” and “naughty”, are reminiscent of when Jamie Oliver first appeared on our screens back in the 90s.

Joe makes a Bad Boy Burrito – everything is “chucked in”, everything is “banging”. He even juggles with apples and, at one point, throws a pile of spinach leaves into the air like some kind of deranged farmer. He’s fascinating. We can even put up with the slow-mo frying pan toss.

In this episode, Joe helps mumof-three Natalie, 31, teacher Asa, 34, student Hannah, 21, and her mum Liz, 50, to shed inches of fat.

But will their before and after shots achieve the heights seen on Joe’s Instagram account?
