HE THREW MY DRUNK MATE OUT OF A CAR

-

Dear Coleen

My boyfriend is a nice man – most of the time – but he has lost his temper on a few occasions.

He threw my friend out of the car because she was drunk and talking loudly, which wasn’t nice to see. It was shocking and almost scary to witness.

I told him I needed time to think about what happened and how I should handle it and he didn’t take it well. His messages got nasty and when I tried to talk to him he accused me of being weak and not having the balls to dump him.

My question is: how bad is bad enough? Should we break up?

Coleen says

Yes. Please don’t wait for something else to happen. If you’re feeling scared by his behaviour and your gut is telling you to walk away, then don’t wait around a minute longer.

He’s displaying abusive and manipulative behaviour – putting you down and targeting your selfesteem. So prove him wrong and end it. You don’t need to be with someone who has those issues and is capable of throwing a vulnerable woman out of a car.

If you end it and he promises never to behave like that again and tries to charm you into trying again, please don’t fall for it.

He might not show that side of himself for a while, but he will at some point. Get out before your self-esteem becomes so low you become trapped in a spiral of abuse.
