On-the-run suspect tracked down to Boston neighbourhood US agencies close in on gang member behind dad’s gun death

for any information that may lead to an arrest and conviction. Sources believe three suspects fled to America after the murder. Two have returned home but a third is still on the run.

Now law enforcement agencies in Boston have begun to close in on him, issuing posters in the Dorchester and Quincy areas where they believe the fugitive to be hiding out.

The notice reads: “An Garda Siochana, the US Department of Homeland Security and the Massachusetts state police are appealing to the Irish community in Boston to help solve the murder of Det Gda Adrian Donohoe on January 25, 2013, in Bellurgan, Co Louth, Ireland.

Det Donohoe was protecting his community on the night he was murdered. Investigators believe people living in Boston and the Upper Norfolk County towns of Massachusetts may have information that could assist the investigation.”

At the bottom of the flyers are phone numbers for the FBI in Boston and investigation teams in Dundalk and Massachusetts. An Irish security source said: “There has been huge work done here by gardai hunting the people who have killed Adrian.

“The problem has been a lot of people are afraid to talk because of the area of Northern Ireland where these people are from.

“Despite that, there has been some very good work done on intelligence and it has been discovered that three of the men went to the US. It now emerges one of the suspects has been hiding in Boston.

“The law enforcement agencies in the US have been hugely helpful and hopefully they will catch this man.”

One suspect in the case was picked up in New York. The man, who is in his 20s, absconded to America after the murder but was extradited back to Ireland last year. He is due for release from prison soon after being jailed for unrelated offences.

On the fifth anniversary of Gda Donohoe’s murder last month, his colleagues vowed to hunt the gang “to the end of the earth”.
