TV host’s call after hearing harrowing accounts

moved from BBC Breakfast to ITV. Back at the Beeb she was more accustomed to in-depth analysis, working on news and she also covered The Andrew Marr Show.

Back on Good Morning Britain, she and co-host Piers Morgan have had much to discuss recently. His toughest and biggest interview, with President Trump, did not receive as much praise Susanna won last night.

Not surprisingly, as they are friends, she does not accept he bottled the Trump interview or performed as badly as some his harshest critics say.

“I think the coup was that he got the interview.

Every single journalist in the UK would have done it in their own way and every one of them is jealous that Piers got that interview and they didn’t,” she says.

“He has a relationship with Donald Trump and we know that and he calls him a friend. It was Trump who walked into the room and said ‘I miss you’.

“So the interview is not going to be half an hour of Piers having a go at Trump because that’s not how he was ever going to do it.

“But he managed to get an apology, of sorts, for the Britain First tweets. And that is hugely significant.”

Piers remains pretty much the only man in Susanna’s life, apart from her three sons from her relationship with charity CEO Dominic Cotton, which ended after 15 years together in 2014.

Having known her myself now for more than six years, I’m aware that asking any questions about new relationships and men in her life are quickly laughed off by Susanna.

She teases me she received three Valentine cards from admirers but then adds they were from viewers she hasn’t met.

When asked if she had a romantic date on February 14 she replies: “Yes I did something nice in the evening...i had dinner with the kids.”

Susanna is much more talkative about staying on Good Morning Britain indefinitely as the show is going from strength to strength and suits her family life.

She joined BBC Breakfast in 2003 and was there for more than a decade of early starts before moving to ITV in 2014.

And the idea of many more 4am starts clearly does not put her off. “I can’t imagine not working here,” she says.

“Good Morning Britain is firing on all cylinders at the moment and long may that continue. That’s a huge credit to Piers and to our good chemistry.

“He is so high energy that I have to feel alert around him all the time.

“So though I sometimes feel exhausted after the show, I think he has brought such a positive and chaotic energy and dynamic energy to the programme.

“I’d like that to continue definitely. My contract is open ended.

“Unlike many parents, I’m lucky to work mornings. I’m around so much for the children when they finish school.” John Worboys: The Taxi Cab Rapist is available on itv.com/hub. Susanna continues on GMB next week on ITV.
