I Mainly like being single says Laura

-

ON screen she is married and surrounded by babies.

But Call The Midwife’s Laura Main insists she is happy being single in real life – and there won’t be the patter of tiny feet any time soon.

Laura – who plays Shelagh Turner, married to Dr Patrick Turner on the show – split from theatre actor Stephen Mcglynn last year.

But she says: “I am very happy. I am proud of some of the things I’ve done in the last year since I’ve been a single.

“There is nothing to be sad about not being in a couple, it is OK.

“There are some great elements – absolutely – I have a rich life.

“For the rest of my life I will be proud of running the London Marathon.”

On having kids she says she is a proud auntie but adds: “I am analytical and I am seriously picking the brains of friends about motherhood. But at the moment I’m far too busy. It’s hard to imagine. We’ll see.”

As well as filming the next Midwife series for the BBC this year, Laura is playing Princess Fiona in Shrek the Musical on a UK and Ireland tour that runs until January.

Tomorrow it lands in Aberdeen, which is making her nervous as it is her home town. She says: “It’s a homecoming gig. I am predominantly excited but I am nervous too. I just want to make sure I am on top form, healthy and fit for all those shows.

“It’s another dream come true to get to go home and perform in front of my family. We have a bit of a rule that they never come to first night. But they come more than once.”

She also has a rule on TV interviews, recording them and checking them before letting her family watch. She adds: “It’s a funny little thing.”

Good luck on stage, Laura – and hope you “deliver”.
