EASTENDERS legend June Brown has smoked for 72 years. “There are people who haven’t even lived that long,” quips the 91-year-old soap star. So when she’s told to quit, she’s horrified.
Meanwhile, Happy Mondays singer Shaun Ryder knows that a hardcore lifestyle of drink and drugs back in the day has ruined him but wants a change, and Benidorm actress Sherrie Hewson admits she can’t even look in a mirror any more.
The stars – along with actress Claire King, presenter Roy Walker, Eastenders stalwart Sid Owen, astrologer Russell Grant and Gogglebox star Sandra Martin, are in Sardinia – to discover how well, or badly, they are ageing.
Sardinians are 10 times more likely to reach the age of 100 than anywhere else on Earth, so it seems a good place to try to reverse the ageing process.
But it will mean some hard graft. Cue some gasps as we find out the celebs’ body age, face age and brain age.
“I want words with the cheeky bastard who thinks I look like an old-age pensioner,” moans Shaun.
In walks blonde beauty, clinic nutritionist Thor to tell them all that a strict diet is key. The 30-something woman turns out to be actually 58, so it’s obviously working for her.
Later on, there’s exercise to send half of them wheezing off for a lie down, and extreme antiageing treatments including snail facials, coffee enemas and, believe it or not, cow urine shampoos – we’re not sure even eternal youth is worth that...
