Actor Paul’s tribute to his superstar daughter after missing out on Oscar
SAOIRSE Ronan’s dad has told of his disappointment at her missing out at the Oscars but said: “I’m proud of her for who she is.”
Fair City actor Paul said Lady Bird star Saoirse was “blessed” to be nominated for best actress even though she didn’t win on Sunday.
The Dubliner added: “I was a bit disappointed for Saoirse when she lost out to Frances [Mcdormand], although losing is the wrong word to use. It’s her third Oscar nomination, and that, to a lot of actors would be a dream come true.
“Each of the three times she was nominated a wonderful actress won the award so I would never say she was robbed or anything like that.
“She is blessed to be in such amazing company really, and hey, she’s only 24.
“The great thing about awards and being nominated is the potential work it may bring to you, actors love their job and the best award is more work, good work and experiences in a very competitive field. I’m proud of Saoirse for who she is, not for any award or her talent as an actor.”
The Veronica Guerin actor also said he’s become an avid soap fan since landing a part on RTE’S long-running drama Fair City.
Paul added: “I would tune in from time to time – but I’ve been binge watching it since I got the job.”
