THE husband of M25 rapist Antoni Imiela’s first victim has declared he is “over the moon” that the monster has died in prison.

Sheila Jankowitz was one of nine women and girls targeted by the predator, who was being considered for release. Erwin Jankowitz, 54, said yesterday: “I am over the moon because he does not get to go to the parole board and try to get freedom. Instead he’s gone down to the hot place.”

Imiela, 63, never showed remorse during his 14 years in jail and Erwin feared he would strike again if he got out.

But the Mirror revealed yesterday he died after falling ill with heart problems at Wakefield Prison. Erwin added: “I feel immense relief, I can close the door and he can never come back to haunt us.

“I think this is justice for everybody, especially his victims who are still alive today. My wife sadly died, but it must be such a tremendous relief to those young women who he effectively tortured.”

Imiela, of Appledore, Kent, was convicted in 2004 of raping seven victims as young as 10 and indecently assaulting one. He was given seven life sentences.

Sheila was aged 29 when she was raped in Forest Hill, South East London, in 1987. Imiela’s DNA was linked to the attack two decades later and he was sentenced to another 12 years in 2012.

Tragic Sheila was murdered in South Africa in 2006 before justice was done.
