GARY RELISHING RON RUMBLE

- Glenavon Glentoran BY ALEX MILLS

GLENAVON chief Gary Hamilton is relishing the prospect of pitting his wits against his former boss Ronnie Mcfall at Mourneview Park today.

The 70-year-old was coaxed out of retirement last month to take over at Glentoran on a temporary basis following the sacking of Gary Haveron.

Although Mcfall had been out of the game for two years since leaving Portadown, he has managed to guide the Glens to victory in his opening two matches.

And, he’ll be looking to keep that run going against the Lurgan Blues this afternoon, who have lost their last two outings.

“It’s certainly no secret that Ronnie and I fell out and didn’t speak for a long time, but he also did a lot for my career at Portadown,” said Hamilton.

“We get on well now and, before he took over at Glentoran, he would have come to quite a few of our games with Anne (his wife) and we always had a chat. I always enjoyed seeing him at games. Despite our differences down the years there has always been a respect between us and when I was appointed Glenavon manager he was one of the first people to get in touch with me to congratulate me.

“Ronnie is old school and does things his way.

“I’m not surprised he has been able to get a reaction out of the Glentoran players because I’ve experienced him and what he does.

“He’s enjoyed massive success in his career and that doesn’t just leave you.

“I’m really looking forward to going up against him again but I know we can have a drink after the game and talk about football, no matter what the result is.”
