Nice to see.. some of you

- IANHYLAND on last night’s telly

Given that Bruce Forsyth would have been 90 last month, Sir Bruce: A Celebration last night was a lovely gesture by BBC1.

However, when Tess Daly closed the show by telling Brucie that she really hoped they’d done him proud I wouldn’t have blamed him if he’d been up there going, “Well, it would have been nice to see a few more stars paying tribute on stage rather than Skyping it in.”

He’d have been right. No disrespect to the likes of Shirley Bassey, Ball and Boe, Alexandra Burke, Jon Culshaw and the Strictly singers and dancers, but it would have been more of a show if Elton John, Ant and Dec, Jimmy Tarbuck, Russ Abbot and Bradley Walsh had performed at the Palladium.

We can only assume busy schedules could not be rejigged. To be fair, the video messages did at least contain some great anecdotes.

I particularly enjoyed Abbot recalling a party at Brucie’s house where he introduced his family “as if they were contestants”.

The biggest surprise was seeing Sarah Ferguson – I never knew the Duchess and Brucie were close.

I just hope the Strictly lot nabbed her and signed her up for the show.
