£10 rum from Aldi gets gold

RUM at £10.49 from Aldi has beaten a bottle three times the price in an international contest.

The budget chain’s Old Hopking Spiced Rum took gold, ahead of World’s End Tiki Spiced rum at £35.75, which got a silver award.

Aldi’s Old Hopking White Rum at £9.99 also took silver in the white rum category in the Spirits Business’s 2018 Rum & Cachaca Masters contest.

Aldi said: “It’s fantastic to see our range praised by experts. A gold medal is a real achievement.”
