-

A RESCUE volunteer saved the life of a man who fell into the Lagan River at the weekend, it has emerged.

The dramatic scenes took place in the early hours of Sunday close to the Big Fish statue in Belfast.

A Community Rescue Service volunteer swam out to the man after he fell into the river and managed to get him on board a boat.

A spokesman said: “The casualty was transferred to the shore and an awaiting ambulance.

“If it were not for the heroic actions of one of our volunteers the water would undoubtedly have claimed another victim.”
