LATE WOE AS ERNE CHANCES GO WEST

- BY ORLA BANNON

FERMANAGH blew a five-point lead as their promotion hopes took a tumble in Mullingar against WESTMEATH.

Rory Gallagher (below) saw his side lose 0-14 to 1-9 having led 0-7 to 0-2 at half-time.

Eamon Maguire’s goal seemed to have them well placed but they never recovered from going down to 14 men when Cian Mcmanus was sent off for a second offence.

They played the last 12 minutes with a man down and Westmeath made the most of it with six unanswered points.

Ger Egan put Westmeath ahead in injury time and John

Connellan doubled their advantage at the death.

Both Fermanagh and Westmeath are well placed on eight points, two behind leaders

ARMAGH who made it five wins from five with a 1-15 to 0-14 success over

DERRY at the Athletic Grounds on Saturday.

Andrew Murnin’s 17th minute goal set them on their way with Rory Grugan top-scoring with six points.

Afterwards Aidan Forker said he believed Armagh were well placed for promotion.

“It sounds good to be undefeated,” he added. “Our big goal this year was to get out of Division Three and we’re looking quite good.”
