Supermarket’s car park closed in clues search

A SUPERMARKET car park was sealed off by police and Army investigators yesterday in the hunt for clues over the poisoning of Sergei Skripal.

The Sainsbury’s store is in the same precinct where Mr Skripal and his daughter Yulia were found collapsed.

The top level of the car park was closed while checks were made.

It is believed to be where Sergei parked before going to lunch at a nearby Zizzi restaurant in Salisbury.

It also emerged yesterday that CCTV footage of the final moments before Mr Skripal fell ill may have identified some “persons of interest”.

RECOVERY

The high-quality images are said to be clear enough to see people’s faces or read a car number plate.

A source told The Mirror: “It is highly possible there are significant persons of interest that have been identified, of great interest to the investigation.”

The coverage includes The Maltings area, where Mr Skripal and Yulia were found fighting for their lives.

Investigators in hazardous material suits also moved in to the village of Winterslow, six miles from the town, loading a white van on to a truck.

It is believed to belong to Robert Horner, 22, an employee with a recovery firm, who picked up Mr Skripal’s BMW from the Sainsbury’s car park last week.

Winterslow postmaster Bella Thomas said: “It’s like a scene from the Twilight Zone, something you see in the movies.”
