Dad: Alfie’s life support may be switched off on Friday

- BY KATE MCMULLIN

ALFIE Evans’ life support could be turned off as soon as Friday, his father has said.

Tom Evans made the claim as the Appeal Court yesterday refused permission for the fight over the 22-month-old, who has a mystery degenerative brain condition, to go to the Supreme Court.

Tom, 21, and partner Kate James, 20, will now ask the highest UK court directly to stop Alder Hey Hospital in Liverpool taking Alfie off his ventilator. In an emotional Facebook post Tom wrote: “Alder Hey have requested a meeting so they can discuss removing Alfie’s machine on Friday. How sick, knowing we are still fighting with Alfie.”

He also said bosses had discussed a last day with Alfie at a hospice before turning off his life support, which he blasted as “absolutely vile, disgusting”, adding: “Alfie is nowhere near that stage yet.”
