Quarter-life crisis
Young adults ‘pushed to brink on jobs, cash and lack of love’
SIX in 10 young adults admit they are struggling to cope with the trials of life.
The 25 to 35-year-olds are suffering a “quarter-life crisis” brought on by worries over money, jobs and relationships.
Researchers said more than half found it hard to make ends meet. Other stress factors included trying to get on the property ladder, a lack of luck in love, looking for work or trying to hold down a challenging job. Asked how they felt in the past six months, the most common answers were “anxious, frustrated, confused and sad”, the study for First Direct bank showed. But psychologist Dr Oliver Robinson said: “There’s two sides to a quarter-life crisis.
“They’re often feared as periods of difficulty and distress – but they can also be times of curiosity and growth.
“This can act as a spur to explore new ideas and new ways of overcoming life’s challenges.”
