RINGROSE IS SUCH A BONUS

- BY MICHAEL SCULLY

GARRY RINGROSE has the X factor that Ireland need at Twickenham, believes Conor Murray.

Ringrose (right) returned to the Test arena for Saturday’s 6 Nations victory over Scotland after nine months out and delivered a superb performance.

The 23-year-old is Ireland’s third outside centre of this championship and Murray believes the men in green are lucky to have him after injuries to Robbie Henshaw and Chris Farrell.

Murray said: “Garry is a fantastic player, he got his injury and that’s unfortunate and it is unfortunate for Chris now, who is going through something similar. You look at what Chris did against Wales, he’s an athlete, a massive man - he’s a bit bigger than Garry, he used that to his advantage.

“Garry will do that for you if you ask it of him but his feet, his footwork, his acceleration is phenomenal and he used that really well at the weekend.

“And he’s an asset to have in any team. Joe [Schmidt] and Andy [Farrell] and the coaching staff know what they need from Garry, and he’s very good at delivering that.

“Like, the natural ability he has is something we can’t lose I wouldn’t have any fears of him losing it, playing a little tighter, or going into a shell.

“I think he is the type of fella who likes to get on the ball, backs himself. That’s what you need, guys who are hungry.”
