Adam opens the Lurgan account before late show seals tie

THE 4-0 scoreline suggests an easy win for Lurgan Town Colts in the Lisburn Juvenile under-13 Division Three Cup semi-final but it could not be further from the truth.

Adam Banks ran on to a through ball in the opening quarter of the game and dispatched it into the East Down net but the Strikers responded positively to the reverse.

Both teams played some great football in atrocious conditions with heavy rain pouring down, but were unable to change the position until 13 minutes from time when Lurgan got vital breathing space.

A clearance from the East keeper was picked up by Daniel Graham and his volley gave Lurgan the all-important second.

Lurgan now had the edge and they were not letting the game slip away – adding two more goals.

Luke Carson got the third and Daniel Graham got his own second and his side’s fourth. Lurgan manager Aidan Harrison paid tribute to both teams who played through the heavy rain and admitted his team struggled for much of the match but came through in the end.

“Daniel Graham was outstanding for us and scored twice. Ben Henderson was great in defence,” he added.

Strikers boss Richard Dodd thought they played well in the first half and kept a good shape. “It was a good overall performance and I think 4-0 flattered them but they are a good team.”
