FLOODY HECK NOT AGAIN..

Heavy rain risk to property

- BY MAURICE FITZMAURICE

HOMES and businesses are facing a flood risk due to heavy rain and high winds, weather forecasters have predicted.

The Met Office said eastern areas of Northern Ireland are subject to a yellow warning today and tomorrow.

It added: “Strong south-east winds will bring a period of persistent, occasionally heavy rain on Wednesday afternoon and into Thursday morning.

“Flooding of a few homes and businesses is possible while some flooding of roads may result in longer journey times and disruption to bus and rail services.

“The south-east winds may also prove an additional hazard with delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and delays to air and ferry transport.”

Colder weather also looks set to return, with the potential for more snow in some parts of the UK.

The Met Office said a weather front from the south-west moving towards the north-east is set to bring heavy rain with strong winds, while the latter part of the week will see a return to colder temperatures.

Spokeswoman Nicky Maxey warned there was potential for further yellow warnings with a chance of gale force winds. She said by Friday the rain would be confined to the east of the UK with dryer conditions elsewhere. She added: “We start to see colder air coming in from the east, then as we go through Friday and into Saturday, and when that cold air meets that band of rain on the east side of the country, there’s a chance some of that rain could turn to snow over higher ground.”
