Kerry on like that & it’ll be a short summer

-

SUNDAY’S loss to Dublin was a worrying procession from a Kerry point of view.

I watched the game back in full and, bar a decent first 20 minutes, it’s not too often you see a Kerry team roll over in Croke Park to such an extent.

I feared for Kerry that Dublin would do a number on them and so it proved. The lack of structure at the back and level of defending was particularly worrying.

I don’t buy into it being a gulf in class – some of the basic defensive errors were of the schoolboy variety from players capable of much better.

The return of David Moran is a boost but they need more pace. James O’donoghue hasn’t been seen yet while Paul Geaney seemed out of sorts on Sunday.

David Clifford tried hard but was tightly marked.

Dublin were smarting from last year’s League final defeat and left down a marker. They got 2-17, it could easily have been 4-20.

Jonny Cooper led a brilliant defensive effort, Brian Fenton and Michael Darragh

Macauley ran the show from midfield and Ciaran Kilkenny gave an exhibition.

Eamonn Fitzmaurice goes back to the drawing board now and it’s a blank one after Sunday. They can’t play that defence and must find a proper structure, or it’ll be more than just Dublin dishing out drubbings.
