IT’S GETTING SONIC AT CELTRONIC

PERFECT VENUE TO SEE VOLBEAT SPRING IS IN THE AIR AT LA PRIMAVERA FOOD & DRINK MARKET

-

Ireland’s premier electronic music festival, Celtronic, celebrates its eighteenth anniversary this summer and is due to set up home around Derry again from Wednesday June 27 until Sunday July 1. The acclaimed festival regularly attracts thousands of music fans from across Europe to dance in the venues of the Maiden City to the sounds of some the world’s best electronic music talent.

Previous festivals have featured dance music luminaries including Dixon, Derrick May, Carl Craig, Jon Hopkins, Mano Le Tough, Ben Klock, Joris Voorn, Clark, Recondite and John Talabot as well as providing hundreds of showcase and performance opportunities to the best local/ national Djs/producers and live acts.

This year’s lineup is shaping up to be something special and today, we can exclusively reveal the first two headliners at this year’s festival.

After an unblemished career spanning almost two decades, Roman Flügel will visit Celtronic at the top of his game. Roman Flügel is committed. Not to one style, but to electronic music itself. An active member of Frankfurt’s underground scene in the 1990s, Roman Flügel made a life time commitment to thriving on the knife edge of creative pursuit, shape shifting like smoke through different masks and guises along the way. With more than 20 years of expertise at his disposal, a night with Frankfurt’s finest has become nothing short of unmissable. Flügel’s CV is staggering, he is: co-founder of Ongaku – Playhouse – Klang Elektronik with Ata and Heiko Schäffer; the man behind immortal hits like “Geht’s Noch?” or “Rocker”, a producer under multiple aliases and projects (Roman IV, Soylent Green, Eight Miles High, Sensorama); a remixer and high-flying DJ able to constantly reinvent himself, playing at the best clubs around the world. All this topped in recent times by two excellent albums: “Fatty Folders” and “Happiness Is Happening”, both released on Dial. The world is indeed his oyster.

For over 15 years Paula Temple has been pursuing her own unique musical path. As a self confessed noisician, living in Berlin, she specialises in a noisy, phantasmagoric techno sound, where the dial is rarely turned below

200 per cent and every moment of silence seems deafening. Her music is fearlessly liberating artistic statements that defies the boundaries of linear. The legendary label R&S records have released some of her finest work including ‘Deathvox’, which is regarded by many as of the most original contributions to modern techno. Her most celebrated track ‘Gegen’ remains an anthem at clubs and festivals worldwide and she has remixed artists including The Prodigy, The Knife and Peaches.

The full lineup for Celtronic 2018 will be revealed in the days ahead. Keep an eye on Celtronic’s various social media channels for the full reveal. A limited number of access all events tickets priced £50 will go on sale at wegottickets. com on March 30. WE’VE made it folks. What feels like the longest winter ever is finally behind us and we can now get on with officially enjoying spring.

If you’re just coming out of hibernation and planning for ways to celebrate the longer evenings, warmer weather and the opportunity to actually get outdoors without needing to be armed with a shovel, you’ll be wanting to know about The House of Peroni Presents : La Primavera Belfast.

In Italy, it is traditional to celebrate the beginning of spring with La Festa Della Headliners Roman Flügel and (below) Paula Temple Primavera – which is basically an excuse for indulgent food festivals, laden with all the bounty of spring, prime amongst being the new crop of Italian citrus fruits.

This year, the tradition arrives Belfast’s Cathedral Quarter, as St Anne’s Square becomes the venue for a three-day pop-up food and drink market, bursting with the flavours and aromas of Italian springtime.

Some of Belfast’s finest Italian eateries – including Coppi, The Chubby Cherub and the Belfast Woodfired Pizza Company – will be there with a range of seasonal twists on their standard offerings. We keep saying how great it’d be to see (insert musician here) at the Telegraph Building because it’s perfectly suited to their (insert genre here) sound – no matter whether it’s house, techno or whatever. It’s true though This time we reckon it’d be great to see Volbeat at the Telegraph Building because it’s perfectly suited to their heavy metal and rockabilly sound... they play Saturday, May 26, doors 7pm, tickets £25 plus booking fee from shine. net and ticketmaster. ie

All dishes can be eaten al fresco and renowned mixologist and Peroni Nastro Azzurro Global Ambassador Federico Riezzo has also created Peroni-infused drinks, inspired by fresh Italian citrus, for those keen to try something with a more seasonal flair.

What better way to put the winter behind you?

The House of Peroni Presents: La Primavera takes place at St. Anne’s Square in Belfast city centre from Thursday April 5 to Saturday April 7. Entry is free and on a first come, first served basis. Over 18s only.
