Gulp! £10k for cognac shot

- BY VICKY SMITH

A SINGLE shot of cognac sold in London for £10,014 to set a new world record.

The Rome de Bellegarde tipple was found in the cellars of cognac makers Jean Fillioux and believed to date back to 1894.

The sale in Kensington beat the previous record of £7,072 in Hong Kong. THE Beast from the East will make us unhappy bunnies by breezing back in for an Easter freeze.

Arctic conditions will return over the holiday with temperatures as low as -10C in some areas from Good Friday.

Forecasters expect snow too, particularly in the north of England and Scotland – and another chilly blast mid-april.

The Met Office’s Aidan Mcgivern said: “Following two exceptionally cold episodes in March you might be hoping spring has finally arrived.

“There are now fairly strong signals temperatures will take a downturn at the end of next week and it’s going to feel much colder again heading into the Easter weekend.”

His colleague Alex Deakin added: “Are we going to see the return of the snowfalls? With it turning so cold then yes, we are likely to see some and it could be on the heavy side.”

The mercury finally hit double figures this week with highs of 11C yesterday.

But by the end of next week, another cold air vortex means overnight frosts as temperatures struggle to top 5C.

The impact is not expected to be as dramatic as this month’s heavy snow, which crippled parts of the South West, Wales, Scotland and eastern areas including Kent.

The Weather Channel said the chilly outlook is the ongoing impact of February’s sudden stratospheric warming event and polar vortex split.
