SHAUNA RETURNS TO PLAY MCHUGHS WITH REWS

-

WE all remember cooing and fawning over Shauna Tohill not so long ago, when her alter-ego as frontwoman of Silhouette looked on the verge of doing something really big. Can’t Keep Up was a monster of a track, at least in local terms, a bombastic dance-rock crossover with hook so infectious the Tourist Board used it to lure travellers to new Northern Ireland. A siren, so to speak.

Fast forward a few years and the Co Derry woman is based in London, part of an exciting duo called Rews, and again coming up with cracking music. They’ve more of a rock edge than Shauna’s previous incarnations but with new partner in crime Collette Williams on drums and sharing vocal duties, may have stumbled on the perfect formula.

They have a string of fine singles under their belts, enjoyed a successful and productive summer rocking the festivals and on the back of it won admirers far and wide – with the mighty Mark Radcliff touting them as one of the highlights of Glastonbury. “Stupendous,” he called them. “If you get a chance to see them – go.” High praise indeed.

Anyway, debut album Pyro – home to singles Miss You In The Dark, Shione and Your Tears – is out now. Go buy it, and then head to Mchugh’s Basement in Belfast tomorrow night when Rews play a headline show. Doors 7pm, tickets 10 plus booking fee from ticketmaster. ie, www. shine. net, Katy’s Bar and Ticketmaster outlets nationwide. See you there...
