Residents in lucky escape as car torched

- BY MAURICE FITZMAURICE

RESIDENTS had a lucky escape early yesterday after a stolen car was set alight at their front doors.

Locals said the vehicle was close to the front of two houses in West Belfast, when it was burned but rolled backwards.

Sinn Fein councillor Stephen Magennis said the Fire Service were quickly on the scene to put out the blaze in the Glenkeen area of Poleglass at 4.30am.

He added: “The houses where the car was set alight don’t have back doors so this could have been a lot worse if they’d had to get out in a hurry.

“The people in the house have only moved in and were pretty shaken.”

Police said the black Hyundai was destroyed in the arson attack.
