Cup waste up 33% in 2030

WE will throw away 33% more disposable cups by 2030 without action to cut plastic waste, a report said.

Total single-use waste will rise 20%, with crisp packets up by 34%, plastic straws 41% and bottles 9%, a study by conservation group WWF found.

Chief Tanya Steele said the extra waste was “the equivalent of 87,000 double decker buses” each year.

To mark Earth Hour at 8.30 tonight WWF urged people to take action, such as carrying reusable cups.
