Online vans ’ruin roads’
ONLINE shopping vans are wearing out local roads, councils claim.
The distance travelled by light goods vehicles is up almost 20% since 2011, while average speeds on A roads have dropped 4% since 2014, says the Local Government Association.
Tackling the cost of congestion and repair bills “must be a national priority”, the LGA insists.
It wants councils to get two pence a litre of existing fuel duty for road upkeep, or around £1billion a year.
