Going Down unthinkable for former giants of game
THE Meath Down clash stands out to me this weekend, as a genuine Meath fan who does not want to see us in Division Three.
That’s despite the great football Down teams have graced us with for decades.
With Meath’s management in place the last couple of years (left, boss Andy Mcentee), it’s unthinkable that one of these once great counties will end up in the third tier. But, effectively, it’s winner takes all.
Both these teams moved away slightly from the characteristics that once made them great. They also haven’t got the quality they once had. But what is most worrying is the inconsistency of both.
They need an absolutely defined game plan to break down well organised opposition.
I know the Meath management personally, I know exactly where their hearts are. But they need a big crowd in Navan, like a 16th player.
For the loser, it will feel like nothing short of a footballing travesty and one they may not get over with the Championship on the horizon.
