- Warrenpoint Town Dungannon Swifts BY DARREN FULLERTON

DUNGANNON Swifts boss Rodney Mcaree is determined the club’s season “doesn’t fizzle out” after the high of lifting the League Cup.

The Swifts – who beat Ballymena United to win their first senior trophy six weeks ago – complete their pre-split league fixtures at Warrenpoint Town today.

A win would ease them to within seven points of Glentoran in seventh place with five games to play prior to facing the Glens at The Oval on Tuesday night.

Topping the bottom half of the table and securing a seventh place finish in the Premiership secures a spot in the Europa League play-offs.

Mcaree, who saw Dungannon end a three game losing streak with a 3-2 win over Glenavon last weekend, said: “We’ve still a lot to play for.

“We want to push on and try and finish seventh in the table. Since the League Cup final, we have won two and lost three.

“We want to continue playing with positivity and not let the campaign fizzle out. It’s important we go into those final few games with something to play for.

“There’s nothing as bad as sitting in a position in the table where you’re comfortable and there’s very little to play for. It’s important we kick on.”

While Dungannon are eyeing a back-door route to Europe, Warrenpoint are bidding to stay clear of the relegation dogfight.

Stephen Mcdonnell’s men, who suffered a 4-1 loss to Crusaders on Monday, lie seven points clear of Carrick, who are in the relegation play-off spot.
