IT’S ALL GOING SWIMMINGLY FOR SINGER LISA AGAIN

-

Dublin’s amazing Lisa Hannigan is bringing and her band up the road to Derry’s historic Guildhall on Tuesday June 12 for a rare performance.

The singer-songwriter released At Swim towards the end of last year to almost universal five-star reviews.

It was her third and most bewitching album, steered on production duties by The National’s Aaron Dessner. Having produced for the likes of Sharon Van Etten and Local Natives, he’d shot Lisa an email out of the blue suggesting they explore workimg together.

Taking up his offer enabled Lisa to rediscover the collaborative spirit she’d missed in Dublin and to see her recording time in London in a different light. At Swim became in part about homesickness and isolation, but also about love.

After playing in support of Passenger for nearly two years, Lisa struggled at first to write new material for At Swim. A new relationship meant that she was dividing her time between different cities – adrift and lost, she threw herself into distraction instead.

There was an acting debut as a mermaid in the Oscar-nominated animation Song of the Sea, soundtrack work on Fargo and the Oscar-winning score for Gravity, all the while founding and co-hosting the acclaimed Soundings podcast (in which Lisa turned interviewer with guests such as Harry Shearer, Sharon Horgan and David Arnold).

What she arrived at for At Swim is beautiful listening and if her live rendition is only a fraction as captivating, we’re in for a treat. Tickets for the Millennium Forum go/ went on sale at 9am today from the box office (028 7126 4455) and online at wegottickets.com.
