10MATCH KEEPER NETS A LAST EIGHT SPOT

-

CALEDON ROVERS have had four looks at champions-elect Hill Street this season – and see no reason to doubt they’ll win Division One again.

The Tyrone men once again frustrated Street for long periods on Saturday before succumbing to a 1-0 defeat.

And Rovers boss Alastair Power admitted: “We’re sick looking at them.”

He told Match on Tuesday: “It’s hard not to be impressed by Hill Street, they’re the yardstick for everyone else.

“In my opinion, Division One is a tougher league than Intermediate A. I think there are five or six teams in our division who would easily survive in the top league.

“Everyone has sticky patches but I can’t see Hill Street slipping up to the point where they don’t go on and win the league.

“On Saturday, we hit the bar and the post in the first half but other than that, Hill Street were the better team.

“But in the second half we were the only team in it.

“We missed so many chances which was annoying but I can’t be disappointed with the performance.

“Their goal came from a penalty which could have gone either way so we did well.

“We have to come off from games like that and hold our heads up high and we have to put it out of our system straight away and thankfully the games come round thick and fast.

“We’ve got Donaghmore this evening and we’re really looking forward to that game.

“It’s a local derby and they’re no pushovers but if we play like we did on Saturday we’ll be hard to beat.”

It’s been a stop-start campaign for Caledon with some impressive displays to go with some disappointing defeats.

Among the highlights was the 2-2 draw away at Hill Street earlier in the season as well as a 2-1 win over Rectory Rangers.

All of which means they’re sitting fifth in the table – having won five, drawn four and lost four.

That consistent inconsistency is mirrored on the scoring fronts where they’ve netted just 18 – the same as second bottom Donaghmore – but conceded only 19, which is a better record than leaders Ballyoran.

“This is my fourth season here and we’ve come right through the divisions so we have to be pleased with the progress,” added Power

“Seven of the team on

Saturday were playing for us in Division Four.

“We’ve added a few more and they’ve all seemed to gel together well. It’s a great wee club, on and off the field.

“So much work is put into it – we’ve set up a mini-soccer section now as well.

“Our reserves won four trophies last season and they’ve nearly the league won this year.

“This is my first time in management but I have Paul Mcmahon as assistant and you
