- BY CHRIS SHERRARD

BANGOR produced a five-star performance to keep the lead in the Ballymena PIL on Saturday. A comprehensive victory away at Cookstown Youth ensured the Seasiders’ gap at the top is still four points. Ben Roy had put Bangor in front but a Kiefer Scott equaliser left things less than straightforward for the visitors. However, Bangor went back in front 10 minutes after the restart with Mark Cooling getting a third and Ethan Boyland and Gerard Mcmullan completing the rout. There were seven goals in the game between Brantwood and Dunloy with the hosts edging it. Marty Mcavoy and Mark Tweedie put Brantwood 2-0 up, Declan Mcgarry brought it back to 2-1 only for Aaron Finn to restore the home advantage. Goals from Kieran Hughes and Karl Fitzpatrick again levelled matters – but Ross Cowan was to have the final say with the winner four minutes from time. Two Eugene Gallagher goals helped St James Swifts to a 2-0 win at Desertmartin while Chimney Corner and Cookstown RBL played out a 3-3 draw. Coagh United are into the final of the Mcreynold’s Cup – a 52nd minute strike by Drew Kelly seeing them past Ballynure OB on Saturday. In the second round of the same competition, Newtowne Thrashed Sofia Farmer 10-1 – eight of the goals coming in the second half. The Coleraine Premier Division title race is rapidly developing into a straight fight between Dervock and Ballycastle United.
