Fruit & veg market trader banned from shouting after complaint over noise

- BY VICKY SMITH

A MARKET trader in a seaside town has been banned from shouting about his wares – after complaints about the noise.

Wayne Bellows’ family has been selling fruit and vegetables at the site for the past 80 years.

Despite his name, the 53-yearold fourth-generation stallholder was “shocked” to be told by local officials he was deemed too noisy and would have to stop shouting. The Saturday market in Lymington, Hants, where the average home sells for £500,000, dates from medieval times BEYONCE really lets her big hair down – or up – in a barnstorming headline set at Coachella festival.

As Bey, 36, shook her mane in California, Adele, 29, was at home shaking her booty in a copycat act on Instagram. and has 100 stalls selling various wares. The town was dubbed “too posh for Argos” when residents fought plans to open a branch of the catalogue shop.

After receiving a complaint, the town council has now told Mr Bellows, of Totton, he must stop his shouts of “tubs of strawberries” and “come and try”.

He said: “It is part and parcel of street life. It’s part of the atmosphere.

“I just use my voice. If I cannot shout, I cannot sell. I’m angry because markets should have a bit of atmosphere.”

A town council spokeswoman said market rules ban traders from making a noise nuisance.
