TEEN KNIFED PARENT AFTER STAB THREAT

Thug spared more jail after mum backs him in court

A FLEET of boats, surfers and swimmers took part in the first ever sea litter pick off the North Coast yesterday.

The National Trust teamed up with marine businesses and groups to rid the water of debris for World Heritage Day.

Volunteers took to the ocean along hard to reach bays between Dunseverick Castle and the Giants Causeway to remove rubbish.

An entire fishing net and several huge tangles of rope were among the items thrown away.

National Trust spokesman Dr Cliff Henry said: “It was great to get out on the water for our first ever litter pick and do our bit towards tackling marine litter.” A TEENAGER who knifed his mother after shouting “I am going to stab the f**k out of you” was spared further jail yesterday.

Lewis Goodall has already served the equivalent of a 14 -month sentence in custody over attacking his mother in their East Belfast home last August.

Making the 19-year-old the subject of a two-year Probation Order, Judge Geoffrey Miller told him this sentence “is not an easy option” – and warned any offending within that period would result in him being sent to Hydebank YOC.

Prosecutor Philip Henry told Belfast Crown Court that Goodall admitted assaulting his mother and causing her actual bodily harm at their Donard Street home.

He said the accused left the house just before midnight on August 25 and went to his brother’s, and returned at around 7.30am the following day covered in blood.

His mother noted he smelled of alcohol, and when she asked him what happened, he said he had been hit over the head.

Mr Henry said the accused asked his mother for money she was giving him for a concert. She refused and asked him to clean himself.

Goodall then punched her, grabbed a knife with a seveninch blade and ran at her with it as she sat on the sofa.

She suffered minor injuries and managed to escape. As she ran to a neighbour’s, Goodall chased her, with Mr Henry telling the court: “He came at her again as she tried to gain access to her neighbour’s.”

When the PSNI’S Armed Response Unit arrived, they saw Goodall brandishing a spanner, his face and head covered in blood.

Defence barrister Richard Mcconkey said his client’s mother withdrew her statement, and said Goodall had already served a period in custody for the incident.

Passing sentence, Judge Miller said it was clear from reports that Goodall was “shameful and quite clearly regrets... the violent assault on his mother”.
