RUBY CHOCOLATE
It’s being hailed as the fourth chocolate flavour after milk, dark and white. Innovative ruby chocolate – created from ruby cocoa beans by Swiss firm Barry Callebaut – is the new choc on the block.
In the race to have the first ruby chocolate bar on the shelves, iconic Kit Kat has taken on posh store Fortnum & Mason with prices differing by almost £6.
So how did they compare and is ruby any better than run-of-the-mill pink chocolate? We did the decent thing and put them all through their paces in the ultimate Cash Queens taste test.
We were excited to be among the first in the country to unwrap the pastel pink wrapper and try this new flavour. The dusky pink chocolate looked intriguing and as we took our first bite the tangy berry taste caught us by surprise.
While the long-lasting raspberry flavour was delicious and not overly sweet, the signature wafer was too thinly coated in chocolate and let it down a bit.
Could be a gem with more chocolate
Dinky little after-dinner truffles in a bubblegum pink box looked elegant but we found the chocolate was dull and lacked character. The dreamy filling fizzed with champagne flavour but the outer pink chocolate casing was a disappointment.
Better inside than out Perfectly formed pink chocolate buttons. The chocolate was a very yummy creamy vanilla with a decent dose of crispy, fruity strawberry bits. Our panel of testers dived in to polish off the bag very swiftly.
Very moreish
Pretty sugar pink solid chocolate numbers that were sweet and had a delicious strawberry flavour. Chunky chocolate but soft to eat. One was more than enough of these rich gems.
Expensive tasting chocolate
These looked impressive with a deep and rich colour. But they were a little disappointing compared to the usual creations from Choc on Choc. They simply tasted of white chocolate and lacked a good dash of berry flavour to the shell or some sort of fruity filling.
More flavour please
