TROPHY STILL SHINES FOR CAHILL

- BY DARREN LEWIS

GARY CAHILL’S glittering CV speaks for itself.

A second FA Cup winner’s medal on Saturday would join those from two Premier League titles, the League Cup, the Europa League and the Champions League.

It would also provide a reminder of what Gareth Southgate (right) will miss should the England manager choose not to call on the Chelsea defender’s experience for his World Cup squad. At 32, Cahill will not lose sleep over whether he makes the cut.

He is focused only on ensuring Chelsea’s season ends on a high against Manchester United after a nightmare 10 months.

“My CV’S there, it’s just whether they want to use that or not,” he said. “That’s not my decision. I just have to perform as best I can, which I’ve tried to do in the last five, six weeks, to put myself back in the frame. I’m not going to be sitting up every night this week worrying about this Cup final on Saturday. I know I’ll be ready.

“The same with England. I’ll wake up and see if I’m in. If I’m in, I’ll go and give everything I’ve got. If I’m not in, I’ll go away with my family and reflect and rest.”

While some of his club teammates are licking their wounds at missing out on the Champions League, Cahill still sees the FA Cup as a massive prize with which to end a disappointing season. “You can’t tell me the FA Cup isn’t ranked highly,” said Cahill (below, challenging Dwight Gayle in Sunday’s 3-0 defeat at Newcastle).

“You’re talking to the wrong fella. Maybe talk to some of the other boys. In terms of winning the league, the FA Cup is right up there for me.”
