Our hearts are broken into a million pieces...

Probe into violent killing of teen Cameron

- BY TREVOR QUINN and WILLIAM DUNNE

THE mother of a teenager whose body was found in a field said the family’s “hearts are broken in a million pieces”.

Police in the Republic believe Cameron Reilly was beaten or strangled to death and his body left in the field beside an industrial estate in Dunleer, Co Louth, on Saturday morning.

It was discovered by a man out walking his dog. It is understood that shortly before Cameron was murdered he rang a close relative telling them he would be home soon.

Tributes poured in for the 18-year-old over the weekend and his family and the local community have been left devastated by his sudden death.

His heartbroken mother Tracy Glass said: “Thank you to each and everyone of you, our hearts are broken in a million pieces. My beautiful son, love you to the moon and back.”

Last night gardai revealed they are searching for the teenager’s phone, an iphone X or 8, space grey, which has been missing since the murder – and which could be key to the probe.

They have asked local residents not to put out their bins for collection until they have checked them for the missing handset.

Speaking at Drogheda Garda station, Inspector John O’flaherty said: “We are particularly appealing for assistance from the public to locate Cameron’s phone, an Apple iphone [64GB] with a green hard back cover, space grey in colour. We would ask home and business owners in Dunleer to check their property including wheelie bins and waste skips. We would also ask anyone offered a phone for sale as described to contact us.”

A former Independent councillor for Dunleer said local people are “shocked and horrified” by the killing.

Hugh D Conlon, a community representative on the Ardee Mid Louth Joint Policing Forum, said: “The community are horrified by the sheer brutality of what happened in the Shamrock Hill area of the village.

“He was a nice, quiet young man who lived with his family, close-by to where his body was found. I would know his mother and his grandparents and they’re well-known and respected.”
