Salah is top of football’s pyramid with Messi and Ronaldo

ROBERTSON: ‘AND HE’S GETTING EVEN BETTER’

- BY DAVID MADDOCK

ANDY ROBERTSON has dismissed talk that Mo Salah is a one-season wonder by insisting: “He’ll score even more next season.”

The Liverpool defender believes his team-mate (below) has reached worldclass status by emulating the striking deeds of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. And he is confident there is more to come.

“The amount of goals he scores is incredible, but the amount of chances he has…” Robertson said.

“I spoke to him a couple of weeks ago about his goals tally and he said to me ‘it should have been a lot more.’

“He’s had some unbelievable chances so credit to him for getting in the positions. That’s why he’s confident of scoring all the time, because he’s getting in the positions.”

The question mark about Salah has never been about his quality but about whether he can reproduce it. Robertson is confident he can.

“I’ve got no doubt Salah can build on what he’s done this season and do it over it a period of time,” he added.

“Hopefully he can continue and become one of the top names alongside Messi and Ronaldo.” Fellow Red Dejan Lovren was delighted with his latest Anfield appearance on Sunday, even though he lost.

Lovren took on his Liverpool team-mate Roberto Firmino as Brazil beat Croatia 2-0 in a World Cup warm-up on Merseyside. Lovren said: “I was representing my country and it was a special game in front of a mixed crowd

of Croatian and Brazilian supporters. It was a great atmosphere.

“When you look at the Croatia team-sheet and where the players play at club level, we have real quality.

“I’m an optimist who wants to go further. In

Russia we want to get through the group stage but let’s go game by game.”
