CHANNEL 4 won’t stop rabbiting on about its new sixpart comedy with Matt Berry.

Year of The Rabbit has been described as “The Sweeney in Victorian times”.

The series will follow Detective Inspector Rabbit, played by Berry – a hardened boozed-hound who has seen it all.

He’s supported by his new, hapless partner (Freddie Fox), who is determined to stick to the rules.

While they’re probing a local murder, the chief of police's lewd but insightful adoptive daughter (Susan Wokoma) joins them.

Together, the trio fight crime while rubbing shoulders with street gangs, crooked politicians, Bulgarian princes, spiritualists, music hall stars and the Elephant Man. Matt, who won a Bafta award for his role in Toast of London, says: “I’m looking forward to stepping back in time to fight crime.” Year of the Rabbit is expected to air in 2019. Channel 4 also announced plans for another original series at its comedy bash last night. Home, starring Rufus Jones, follows new couple Peter and Katy, and Katy’s son John, as they go on their first family holiday to France. The plan is to bring back a tan, happy memories and six crates of vintage champagne.

What they actually bring back is going to come as a big surprise.. an illegal immigrant. Home explores how this quintessentially English couple deal with Sami, a Syrian refugee. Roisin Conaty’s self-penned comedy Gameface will also be returning for a second series.
