Fat chance of keeping this diet

-

Channel 5 was surely having a laugh with their primetime offerings last night.

At 8pm they gave us Get a Holiday Body: Lose a Stone in 4 Weeks – clearly targeted at viewers who could do with shifting a little excess baggage before their summer getaway.

And what did they follow it up with at 9pm? The Secret of the Chocolate Factory – an hour-long chocumentary full of tempting shots of Cadbury’s finest.

Talk about rubbing it in. I don’t know why the announcer didn’t just tell everyone to switch over to ITV2 and make themselves even more miserable by staring at the toned and tanned gym bunnies on Love Island for an hour.

The diet show was wasted on me. I’m already ready to “bare my body like a celebrity this summer”. OK, so that celeb might be Jeremy Clarkson – but at least I don’t have to watch what I eat for the next few weeks.

Besides, I’ve never understood why people crash-diet before a hol only to pig out once they get there.

Surely it would make more sense to simply eat healthily the whole year round?

I must admit I did feel a bit sorry for one of the celebrity dieters, Antony Costa, when he said: “I just wanna be able to walk down the beach and not be scared of people looking and pointing and laughing.”

Although, to be fair, if that prospect worries him so much he could always just go somewhere where no one has heard of Blue.
