paralysing me and it was terrifying. Things seemed so bleak and we even had to move my bed downstairs to my mum’s office because I couldn’t manage the stairs any more.

“Some days were better than others but very often I could‘t physically get out of bed or manage to pull on a pair of socks.

“The pain in my head, neck

and back was awful and no painkillers could touch it. In fact things got so bad I started researching ways to get to the Dignitas clinic in Switzerland to be assisted to bring my life to an end. I couldn’t take any more. I thought Dignitas was my only option.”

But two years on and one 68-minute surgery later Taylor is reaching out for a new life with thoughts of assisted suicide just a horrible fading memory. She said: “I feel like a new person. The surgical team are incredible here.

“I really can’t believe the difference. It’s incredible and I’m so happy.

“I have found an amazing neuro physiotherapist at home who has supported me every step of the way at the Craniaa Neuro Rehab Centre in Newry.

“Gopalan Sivakumaar is known as Dr Goshi and I really believe the physiotherapy he gave me before I left was extremely beneficial to me.

“I can’t wait to see the effects of the physio now I’ve had the surgery.

“Now we only hope that by letting everyone know about my surgery that other people won’t have to suffer with these conditions or end up immobile.”
