LET’S GO DUTCH!

Hills ace is edam good bet at Haydock

-

DUTCH CONNECTION is the one to beat in the Group 3 Betway John Of Gaunt Stakes (4.00) at Haydock.

The Charlie Hills-trained six-yearold has spent most of his career competing at Group 1 or Group 2 level – hence his so-so strike-rate of five wins from 23 outings.

But it’s a different story in Group 3 company, a grade in which Dutch Connection has a 100 per cent record of two victories from as many tries.

Each of his five successes has been at today’s trip of seven furlongs, and there was much to like about his return to action in the top-level Lockinge Stakes over a mile last month, in which he travelled strongly before finishing fourth behind Rhododendron.

Moving down in both distance and grade, Dutch Connection should get back to winning ways.

German raider looks interesting in the Group 3 Betway Pinnacle Stakes (2.50).

The daughter of Soldier Hollow posted a personal best on her return when winning a Listed event at Hanover by a neck, and Colognebased trainer Markus Klug’s booking of champion jockey Silvestre de Sousa catches the eye.

The Elite Racing Club’s gets the vote for the Listed Betway Achilles Stakes (3.25).

The Julie Camacho-saddled son of Iffraaj went under by just a neck to Mabs Cross in the Group 3 Palace House Stakes on Newmarket’s 2,000 Guineas undercard five weeks ago – and a reproduction of that effort should see him go one better here.

The opening Betway Middle Distance Handicap attracts six threeyear-olds whose best days lie ahead, with preference for (2.15).

At Newmarket, edged out by a head over course and distance last time out, has sound prospects over going one better in the one-mile, six-furlong John Sunley Memorial Handicap (3.40).

Earlier at Headquarters, can continue his upward curve with a fourth success from his last five attempts by beating 10 opponents for the Animal Health Trust Handicap (3.05).

ITV’S eight-race coverage gets underway at Musselburgh (1.55), in which the progressive

has claims second to none.
