Latrobe is weekend banker

- BY PETER O’HEHIR

LATROBE looks the banker on today’s card at the Curragh.

On a day when a massive carryover of €403,067 into the Tote Pick Six will add spice to proceedings, Latrobe should make it fourth-time-lucky in the finale, when he steps up to a mile and a half for the first time, in the Brady Burns Insurance Brokers Supporting June Fest Maiden.

A son of Camelot, Latrobe went close against Ballydoyle colt James Cook on his debut at Leopardstown last October and, sent off an odds-on favourite for his threeyear-old debut at Naas, he was collared late by

Hunting Horn.

He started favourite for the Group 3 Airlie Stud Gallinule Stakes at the Curragh last time and, having travelled strongly, failed to pick-up before staying on to finish second to Platinum Warrior.

Dropping into maiden company today, he appears to have a straightforward task.

The Ger Lyons-trained Mustajeer sets the standard in today’s feature, the listed Mcdonnell’s Bar-sponsored Silver Stakes.

Pat Twomey’s Decrypt, which recovered from a tardy start to finish a good second to Indigo Balance on his recent debut at the Curragh, might progress enough to land the opening Irish Stallion Farms 2-Y-0 Maiden.

The biggest threat might come from Ballydoyle candidate Cardini.
