Plea for £1bn railway boost
A TRANSPORT regulator has called on Network Rail to spend an extra £1billion in the next five years to improve reliability and safety.
The Office of Rail and Road’s plea came in its analysis of Network Rail’s plan to spend more than £34billion up to 2024.
Network Rail boss Mark Carne welcomed the ORR’S “general support”, saying it had “accepted the majority of our plans”.
