Acid assault victim Ellie’s court ordeal
ALGARVE acid attack victim Ellie Chessell has come face to face in court with the man who allegedly scarred her for life.
The travel rep, 29, told a judge she recognised Edmundo Helder Rodrigues Fonseca, 44, as the man who doused her in acid in May last year.
Her ex-boyfriend Claudio Gouveia, 35, allegedly ordered the attack and has been tried separately. A verdict was due yesterday, but was delayed to June 21.
Ellie, 29, of Newport, Isle of Wight, told the hearing ahead of Fonseca’s trial she knew she had been “set up” by her ex when she had the acid thrown over her.
She said: “He had threatened on several occasions he would hurt me and I realised he had found a way to make it happen.”
