Hypertension dementia risk

-

PEOPLE aged 50 with only slightly high blood pressure are at 45% greater risk of dementia.

A long-running study of more than 10,000 civil servants found this applied even when they did not have other heart or blood vessel-related problems.

Prof Archana Singhmanoux, an honorary professor at University College London, said: “Our work confirms the detrimental effects of midlife hypertension as suggested by previous research.”
