GRAVELY ill Eastenders star Leslie Grantham – said to be fighting for his life – recently moved back to the UK to be near his family.

The Dirty Den actor, 71, is believed to have sold his property in Bulgaria and returned to England in April.

His spokeswoman said last night: “Leslie Grantham remains poorly and is being taken care of by medical staff.”

A painter at Grantham’s former property in Twickenham, South West London, described the actor as looking “gaunt” and “grey” on a visit back to London.

The actor – who played Den Watts in Eastenders in two spells – moved to Bulgaria after divorcing his wife, Jane, in 2013, after being married for 32 years.

Jane is mother to his three sons, Michael, 30, Jake, 29, and Daniel, 23.

The actor fell in love with Bulgaria after filming there for The English Neighbour in 2010, and said of his impending move in 2013: “I am an old man now and I want to go somewhere it is hot.”

The former soldier was axed from Eastenders in 2005 after he was filmed taking part in a webcam sex session in his dressing room.

His character, Den, was killed off for a second time.

More than 30 million viewers watched Den serve Angie divorce papers in 1986.
