Meds link to depression
TAKING more than one type of medication almost doubles the risk of depression, a study has found.
The danger triples for patients taking three pills, including painkillers and heartburn tablets.
It comes as recent data shows half of pensioners take five drugs a day.
Lead researcher Professor Dima Qato, of the University of Illinois, said: “Polypharmacy can lead to depressive symptoms.
“Patients and health care providers need to be aware of the risk.”
