FRAMPTON LUKES DOWN UNDER FOR OPPONENT

- BY BERNARD O’NEILL

UNBEATEN Oriental and Oceania featherweight Luke Jackson is expected to be confirmed as the opponent for Carl Frampton’s homecoming bout in Belfast.

Frampton (right) is slated to fight on August 18 at Windsor Park.

Australia-born Jackson is unbeaten in 16 fights and while the 33-year-old isn’t exactly the top notch opponent Irish fight fans were expecting, Frampton is excited about his fight on home soil.

Tasmanian Jackson is a Continental champion and is ranked No. 5 by the WBO.

Frampton admitted: “I’d rather it was a world title fight but nobody is to blame.

“All the champions have recently fought and Warrington beating Selby threw a spanner in the works as Selby would have taken the fight.”

Jackson began a 10-week training camp on Monday and is this week expected to get the nod for the biggest fight of his career against the Interim WBO champion.

Undefeated Tyson Fury has been added to the Windsor Park undercard.

Lebanon-born Manuel Charr is being touted as his opponent. Charr, nicknamed “Diamond Boy”, is the current WBA heavyweight champion. Fury, the former world heavyweight king, clowned his way to a farcical win over Sefer

Seferi in Manchester last weekend.

“He’ll be up against a more serious opponent this time,” added Frampton who said he was delighted to have Fury on the card.
