Potter out of Europe

-

GRAHAM POTTER gave up the chance to chase a Champions League ticket to take Swansea back into the Premier League.

Potter, 43, got his first taste of European football last season with Swedish side Ostersund, beating Galatasaray, Hertha Berlin and Arsenal, as well as drawing with eventual Europa League champions Atletico Madrid.

But instead of plotting a course into the Champions League next season in Sweden, he has opted for one of the hottest seats in football, becoming the Welsh club’s fifth boss in less than two years.

He said: “I could have stayed and had an easy life. My family was settled in a nice part of the world so this was a career move.

“The club had an ambition to win the Swedish title and play in the Champions League. It wasn’t as though I was at a dead-end club.

“But Swansea City was a Premier League club for the last seven years and it wants to get back there.”
