FREDDIE LJUNGBERG will return to Arsenal after being appointed the club’s Under-23 head coach.

The former midfielder,

41, part of the Gunners’ Invincibles side, will work under new academy manager Per Mertesacker.

Ljungberg coached Arsenal’s U15s and U19s, before leaving in 2017 to become an assistant coach at Wolfsburg.

The Swede said: “Arsenal has always been a special place for me and I’m really excited at this opportunity.”

Gunners’ academy graduate Ainsley Maitlandniles has signed a new five-year deal.
